At the recent Overland Event in Great Missenden, Bucks, we ran a competition to guess the mileage of Simon Milward’s bike, all in aid of Motorcycle Outreach. Silkolene were proud to get involved and offer a prize of a bumper collection of Fuchs Silkolene products, from engine oil to chain lube and cleaning products.
Simon Milward spent 5 years riding the world, spreading word of Health for All and his ideas for how motorcycles should be used to ensure medical aid and practitioners could reach remote areas of Flores in Indonesia. Although his untimely death in Mali in 2005 stole from us all an incredible campaigner and enthusiastic motorcyclist, his dream was realised in Motorcycle Outreach which is now spreading its work to projects in Tanzania.
Those attending the Overland Event raised close to £1,400 and enough to buy a whole new bike which is going to be crucial to the work undertaken in Tanzania. This is an amazing achievement and in no small part due to the incredible efforts of Austin Vince.
But on the Saturday night at The Event, the winner of the ‘guess the mileage’ competition was Harry Lyon-Smith, himself a globetrotter on his veg oil-powered Enfield, called ‘Batty’. Harry guessed just 100 miles short of the actual 78,600. Well done sir!
