The highly-anticipated new CFMOTO 800MT adventure is expected to arrive in the UK at the start of the summer. The new dual-purpose machine has a list of impressive specifications and innovative features.
There will be two models available, the entry-level Sport, and the premium Touring model which will be fully loaded with extras. Both models will be fitted with 3-piece aluminium luggage as standard and are expected to be priced from around £9,500. As with all new CFMOTO motorcycles they will have an industry-leading 4-year warranty and be available on 2-years 0% APR representative finance.
Equipped with a DOHC liquid-cooled 799cc twin-cylinder engine that produces 95hp at 9,000rpm and 77Nm at 7,500rpm, the 800MT looks like it will certainly be capable of long-distance rides. It’s the biggest Chinese-brand machine to join the battle for buyers and it does have a lot of tick bits for the money.
There are selectable riding modes to suit different conditions; ‘Rain’ and ‘Sport’, which no doubt means ‘Dry’. The Touring model is equipped with a slipper clutch and a quickshifter, meaning that you only have to use the clutch when setting off or coming to a stop, if you find it too taxing the rest of the time. To similarly reduce rider fatigue there’s cruise control too, but it can at least enhance fuel efficiency.
The 19-litre capacity fuel tank provides a great range apparently, but until we try it we won’t be in a position to comment on range or the reputed tank design “that ergonomically enhances both standing and seating riding stability”.
While the ‘Sport’ model has cast wheels, the CFMOTO 800MT ‘Touring’ is equipped with a cross-spoke rim, which has good impact resistance, lighter weight and which can of course be easily repaired should the need arise. The menu system in the TFT screen can let you check tyre pressures too, but then you might just be doing that manually when you check the tyres for cuts or other damage.
The silver aluminium panniers provide 63L storage space in total (35L and 28L to suit exhaust). The top box offers and additional 6L storage space. The cases are dustproof, waterproof and lockable. There is a scratch-resistant lining on the inside and the cases are securely fitted to the mounting racks but can be quickly released.
As for the chassis, the seat height is a very accommodating 825mm and there’re fully adjustable KYB upside-down telescopic front forks at the front with travel of 160 mm. The rear monoshock has slightly less travel at 150mm but there are 20-clicks of preload adjustment, compression and rebound damping, so the ‘take what you’re given’ attitude of old is long gone. The cornering ABS system controls the power output and brake force when cornering to ensure maximum stability and grip even in sudden deceleration events.
Protective crashbars are standard and are integrated into the design, giving a distinctive and powerful look that also protects the fuel tank in the case of a ‘moment’.
The new 800MT features full LED lights to complement the dynamic and modern styling. The Sport version will be available in striking blue or black colour options and the Touring model will be available in blue with gold rims.
