‘Edge Expeditions’ launch Pamir Highway trip

good-imageOne of our favourite contributors, travel writer and adventure rider Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent has launched an exciting new adventure travel company, Edge Expeditions.

Focusing on unique, immersive, off-beat adventures to little visited corners of the planet, Edge already have a trio of thrilling two-wheeled adventures slated for summer 2016. Antonia has spent years researching and overseeing obscure adventures all over the world, including The Mongol Derby, Africa Rally, The Ice Run and a Pan-Asian Rickshaw Rally. She also produced two series of ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Roads’ for the BBC, making programmes in over 40 countries.
So to kick off, Edge will be leading two small group rides along Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan’s legendary Pamir Highway in June and July 2016. The rides will trace the ancient Silk Road along Tajikistan’s breathtakingly beautiful Wakhan corridor, pass in the shadow of 7000 metre peaks, follow the course of the mighty Panj River along the Afghan border and include lung-busting 4600 metre passes. There’ll be hot springs, 2000 year old fortresses, hyperbole-defying views, nights under the stars and encounters with Kyrgyz nomads; all whilst following in the footsteps of historical greats such as Timur, Alexander the Great and Marco Polo.

Edge will follow this in September 2016 with a two week off-road motorcycle tour through the Baikal region of Siberia. There’ll be real wilderness, sacred lakes, shamans, refreshing dips in icy rivers, camping on silent hills, extraordinary night skies, wild hills and empty valleys, fragrant pine forests, Buryat culture, banyas, thermal springs, amazing wildlife, a stint on the Trans-Siberian Railway and a delicious absence of roads.
“After years of running expeditions for other people, and setting up TV shoots in every corner of the globe, I felt it was time I did it myself! We’re really excited about Edge, and are plotting a cornucopia of new adventures for 2017 and beyond. And not only by motorbike…” says Antonia of her new venture.
pamiri-fuel-stationThe 2016 expeditions cost from £3650 per person. This price includes rental of fully insured Suzuki DRZ 400 and Yamaha WR250 motorcycles, English speaking guides, mechanics, 4WD support, fuel, accommodation and meals.
