Update on the UK ‘Carnet’ situation

18 Dec 2015 — UK Carnet situation update:

The ADAC (the German Automobile Club) has today confirmed that from the 1st of January they will consider applications from UK residents without a letter of non objection. They are under no obligation to issue to UK citizens and will assess each application based on its own merits.

The ADAC acts as the “official” carnet issuer for a number of countries, however the UK is not one them.
Historically the RAC in the UK has issued Carnet de Passage documentation for those wishing to travel with their vehicles into and across foreign countries, but they are ceasing to do so as of 31st December 2015. No organisation has so far appeared as the UK successor to the RAC although we understand there are those making representations to do so and we wish them well in their endeavours.
